A new bar and grill plans to move into the Columbia nightlife and entertainment district of Vista.
According to documents filed with the City of Columbia, a restaurant called Jay’s Bar and Grill plans to open at 902 Gervais St. in the row of storefronts behind the LongHorn Steakhouse. The facility would occupy the space formerly occupied by World of Beer, which closed in 2020.
The Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals passed a measure at its May 5 meeting that will make way for the bar and grill to be open until 2 a.m.
The company’s zoning application says Jay plans to be open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. The docs say it will be a sports bar with lots of TVs and the occasional live band or DJs.
American dishes dot the list of menu items the restaurant says it will have, including burgers, fries, wraps, chicken wings, hush puppies, chicken tenders and more.
State Rep. Seth Rose, a Democrat from Columbia, wrote a letter to the zoning board arguing that the future facility could be open until 2 a.m., noting he’s happy to see investment in a place vacant for almost two years. .
There has been a recent increase in businesses moving into storefronts that run behind the Vista LongHorn. The Peebles Wings and BBQ Restaurant have set up a location there, and The Post and Courier reported that Silk Restaurant and Lounge is also preparing an upscale establishment along the Strip.
