Bar and grill restaurant near Kahuna’s in Ocean Springs

Kahuna’s in Ocean Springs is known as a neighborhood bar and grill where you can always sing karaoke.

Owners Sherrie Aiken and Theodore Garner also take pride in ensuring their place is inclusive.

“We love everyone, everyone is welcome here,” she said. “Kahuna’s is a popular bar and grill.”

Kahuna’s, which is technically spelled Kahuna-OS on their sign, has been around for nine years and is also becoming increasingly popular among tourists. And while they’re known for karaoke, pool tables, and darts, what happens in the kitchen is unique and delicious.

Aiken and Garner are business and life partners. Sherrie is the most outgoing and a hell of a storyteller too, and she also has some pretty serious cooking skills. The menu is small and relates to bar food, but what I tasted was outstanding. A while ago, Sherrie purchased a custom kitchen smoker, and she’s become a master at it.

The best seller by far is the smoked wings, with your choice of barbecue, garlic parmesan, buffalo, lemon pepper or just plain naked. These are some of the best wings I have had in a very long time.

The loaded nachos are also quite sensational, and the portion I was served could have fed three. Nachos, fries or tater tots can be loaded with cheese, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, lettuce, sour cream and your choice of chicken or pulled pork. I went for the pulled pork, and it was delicious and filling.

I was also pleased to see hot dogs on the menu, one of my favorite but hard to find snacks. You can get a regular dog or a chili cheese dog if you fancy something messy and delicious too. You can also get mozzarella sticks, chicken fillets, and potato salad.

Kahuna’s is a great place for a late night or early morning snack. There aren’t many places around that are open literally all night from 7pm to 7am. Sherrie told me their hours were their special time slot. The food is outstanding, if bar food is your thing, but I can’t stress enough that this is a casual, friendly place. Put Sherrie in a storybook mood, order a dozen wings and one cold, and you’ll have a blast.
